About Us

What is functional medicine? The Institute for Functional Medicine states that “Functional Medicine determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual.”

Due to differences in training and the time constraints dictated by insurance,  traditional doctors prescribe medications using statistically-likely diagnosis and treatment methods that have been shown to be effective across large populations instead of developing an  individualized approach for each patient. . This problem, and other related issues, are what Balance in Healing wishes to tackle.

Functional medicine focuses on what’s below the surface, at the root of the disease-environmental and lifestyle factors, including sleep and relaxation, physical activity, nutrition, gut health, stress etc. .

Balance in Healing is a functional medical center established to adopt a holistic approach to treating and caring for patients. Our goal is to  work together with you to reverse chronic disease by developing an individualized program for you by taking an extensive history, ordering specialized labs and diagnostic testing if appropriate.    After analyzing the results we work together with the patient to achieve their desired healthcare goals by providing customized services, wellness routines, lifestyle modifications,   dietary meal plans, vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients.

.Without being restrained by insurance, Balance in Healing is highly focused on helping you restore your health with as few drugs as possible. Balance in Healing boasts of a team of board-certified healthcare practitioners..

Our Mission and Vision

Meet Dr Camille Johnson

Dr. Johnson has traveled the path of helping others all her life. Prior to becoming a physician she worked for two years at a group home and helped care for and assist with the rehab of adult’s clients who had traumatic brain injuries.

While in medical school at Wayne State University, she maintained a membership with the Black Medical Association while excelling at her studies.  The first Reach Out to Youth program was developed and launched under their leadership.  This program was created to introduce children ages 7 to 11 in underrepresented populations to the possibility of careers in science and medicine, and it is still serving our youth some 30 years later.  In addition to giving back in this manner, she also participated in speaking at schools on career days, allowing children to see an example of what they can achieve if they work hard.

Upon graduating, Dr. Johnson has pursued excellence in all aspects of her career.  She has served the public in the hospital setting, clinic setting, and even in the home as a visiting physician to the homebound.  She also continues to give back by serving as the medical director of a FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) that provides medical, dental, and psychology services to the community regardless of having insurance or being able to pay for services.

The passion Dr. Johnson demonstrates when caring for patients is paled only by the strength, versatility, and love she gives her family.  A mother of two, and wife of 23 years, her family is a tremendous source of pride.  In addition to being a talented diagnostician, she is an avid reader, enjoys creating new recipes and culinary delights, traveling, and spending time with her family.  In becoming the primary caregiver for her mother suffering from Alzheimers and continued to demonstrate her love and devotion to family by shouldering this responsibility in addition to her medical and other family responsibilities.

Dr Camille Johnson

American Board of Internal Medicine / MI State Medical License

In addition to her vast experience in caring for others, she has gone through the ups and downs that menopause has brought.  The weight of a career that involves other’s lives, coupled with the hurdles providers face due to insurance constraints, had taken a toll on her health, especially as it was coupled with untreated stress.  Along with the other changes the years have brought, menopause contributed the joys of mood swings, hot flashes, brain fog, and weight gain just to name a few.  She has been able to treat these conditions utilizing the principles Functional Medicine has taught her.  While respecting the importance of traditional medicine, Dr. Johnson has incorporated the whole body mind set that Functional Medicine teaches.  Delving deep into the root causes of her health issues, she has been able to adjust her diet, supplement her nutritional status with vitamins, and utilize bioidentical hormone replacement therapy to carve out and improve her quality of life.

All of these life experiences combined with a lifelong love of medicine and learning has granted her the unique qualifications needed to address the multitude of health issues we face today.  She has now undertaken this new clinic setting with eyes set on enabling others to access the tools needed to achieve the quality of life we all deserve.  Despite the enormous commitment of time and energy this requires, she continues to serve those in need by carrying out home visits and serving as the medical director of a FQHC.

Dr. Johnson has traveled the path of helping others all her life. Prior to becoming a physician she worked in various positions caring for others.
